Hardware ID (HWID)

Mole sends an X-Hwid header with every subscription request. Providers use it to count devices.

What it actually is

Despite the name this is not a hardware identifier. It is 16 random hex characters, generated on first launch and stored in the app's preferences.

That is a deliberate choice:

  • The value is unique per install and stable for the provider, so device limits work.
  • It carries no device information, so it cannot correlate the user across apps.
  • Reinstalling the app produces a new identifier. Keep that in mind if you enforce a hard device cap: a user who reinstalls will consume another slot.

The format is 16 hex characters, for example 4f2a9c1de7b30586. It is not a UUID.

Where to find it

Settings → Diagnostics → Hardware ID. Tapping the row copies the value.

How it is sent

The X-Hwid header is attached to every subscription request. There is no way to turn that off in the current version.

Note

The identifier is only used for provider-side device limits. The app has no administrator role and no HWID-gated features.
